Transform Your Laundry Room with Easy DIY Duma Tiles Installation

Looking to refresh your laundry or utility room with a clean, modern finish? Duma Tiles are the perfect solution for anyone wanting a stylish and waterproof wall covering that’s simple to install. Thanks to their clever interlocking tongue and groove design, these tiles require no mortar, no grout, and no mess,  just a smooth, straightforward installation you can complete in a single day.

Whether you’re updating a splashback behind the sink, covering existing tiles, or creating a full feature wall, Duma Tiles make it easy to achieve professional results without the professional cost.

Tools and Preparation

Before you start, gather a few basic tools: a tape measure, level, pencil, chalk line, square, and a caulking gun. For cutting, you can use a jigsaw, circular saw, table saw, or mitre saw. If you don’t have power tools, a sharp utility knife will also do the job for simple score and snap cuts.

If your project involves plumbing fixtures or electrical outlets, a drill with a suitable bit or hole saw will help make clean, precise cuts. Remember to wear proper eye protection when using power tools.

Make sure all surfaces are dry, clean, and dust-free before you begin. This ensures a strong bond between the adhesive and the wall.

Planning the Layout

Decide how you want your Duma Tiles to be oriented. You can install them vertically, horizontally, or in a traditional brick or subway pattern. It’s essential to ensure the first row is perfectly level, as every row above it will follow that alignment.

Trim off the bottom flange of the first course of tiles so they sit flush to the wall. Mark a level line across your wall and double-check before gluing anything down. If your floor isn’t level, adjust the bottom edge of your tiles accordingly.

Duma Tiles can be combined with trims for a sleek finish. Choose from J-Trim, Inside Corner Trim, or L-Trim, which are ideal for capping edges or creating neat transitions. If you’re using trims, glue them in place and let them dry for 24 hours before installation.

Installation Steps

Start from the lowest point of the wall and work from left to right. Apply adhesive to the back of each tile by running a 6mm (quarter-inch) bead around the perimeter and filling the centre with an M pattern. Press the tile firmly into place, ensuring it locks tightly into the previous tile’s groove.

When installing in wet areas, apply a thin bead of clear silicone sealant between the joints before connecting the next tile. For dry walls, this step isn’t necessary.

Continue this process row by row, staggering the joints to create your desired pattern. For the final tile in each row, apply adhesive directly to the wall instead of the tile. This helps you slide it neatly into place with less mess. Rubber gloves can help you grip and adjust the tiles more easily.

Finishing Touches

Once you reach the top of the wall, measure and trim the final row of tiles for a perfect fit. For splashback areas, Duma Tiles can be installed directly over existing tiles, saving time and effort. Use L-Trim pieces to cap the edges neatly for a professional look.

If your installation meets in a corner, you can either use a matching inside corner trim or tightly butt the tiles together and seal the joint with clear silicone for a watertight finish. For an even cleaner result, run painter’s tape along the edges before applying silicone, then smooth it with a damp cloth or your finger and remove any excess immediately.

A Stylish, Durable Finish

With Duma Tiles, you can completely transform your laundry or utility room in just one day. Their waterproof, easy-to-install design makes them the perfect choice for modern UK homes.
