If you are planning to update your bathroom, Duma Tiles are an excellent choice for a quick and easy upgrade. These tiles are waterproof, resistant to mold and mildew, and feature an interlocking tongue and groove system that requires no grout or mortar. They can be installed over drywall, cement board, or even existing tiles, making them a great option for DIY projects.
Tools You Will Need
Before starting your installation, gather the right tools to make the process smoother and faster.
-
Circular saw, table saw, miter saw, or jigsaw (a utility knife also works for small cuts)
-
Drill with bits or a hole saw for plumbing cutouts
-
Caulk gun for adhesive and sealant
-
Adhesive and silicone sealant (check Duma Tiles’ website for recommendations)
-
Tape measure, square, chalk line, pencil, and level
-
Protective eyewear when using power tools
Preparing the Wall
Make sure your wall surface is clean, dry, smooth, and level before installing Duma Tiles. Remove any loose material and repair uneven areas. Duma Tiles will only adhere properly to a clean and solid surface.

If you plan to use inside corner trims, glue them in place before starting and let the adhesive dry completely. Trims are optional but help create a more polished and professional look.
Planning Your Layout
You can install Duma Tiles either vertically or horizontally in a stacked or brick pattern. Start by finding the center of your wall and drawing a level line across the area. This first line is critical because it sets the alignment for the entire project.
Check that the surface of your tub or shower base is level. If it is not, trim the bottom edge of your first row of tiles so that the top line remains even. A level first row ensures that all other tiles stay straight as you move upward.
Installing Duma Tiles
Before applying adhesive, dry-fit the tiles to make sure they fit correctly. Trim off the bottom flange of the first row so the tiles sit flush on the tub deck.
Apply adhesive in a quarter-inch bead around the edges of each tile and fill the center with an “M” pattern. Press the tile firmly against the wall, starting from one corner or trim piece. Apply a thin bead of silicone sealant along the interlocking edge before attaching the next tile. This creates a waterproof seal between the panels.
For the last tile in a row, it is easier to apply adhesive directly to the wall instead of the back of the tile. Press it into place and close any small gaps by gently pulling the tile toward the joint.
Around Fixtures and Windows
If you have plumbing fixtures or a window, measure carefully before cutting. Use a hole saw for pipes and a table saw for straight cuts. Always dry-fit the tiles first to ensure accuracy.
For windows, make sure the area is properly waterproofed before installing tiles. Duma Tiles L-trims can be used to finish window edges and exposed corners. Apply adhesive on the back of the trim and a small bead of sealant where it meets the tile. Painter’s tape can help hold the trim in place until the adhesive sets.
Finishing Touches

After all tiles are installed, seal every corner, edge, and gap with silicone. Wipe away any excess with a damp cloth. Once complete, your new Duma Tile tub surround will be clean, modern, and completely waterproof.
